Hotel history

The historical part of today's Carlsbad Plaza Medical Spa & Wellness Hotel 5* Superior consists of four interconnected buildings, whose historical names were Rudolfshof, Quirinal, Neapol and Moskva. Their origins date back to the late 19th century. With the exception of the building Quirinal, all of them served as spa residences.

After 1945, all spa residences were confiscated by the Czechoslovak state, but continued to be used for the same purposes. In 1982 the spa buildings were officially included among the city's cultural heritages and after 1992 they were interconnected and became the Sanatorium Florencie. Like all other spa residences in Karlovy Vary, the Sanatorium Florencie was modernized, but soon there were not enough guests or state funds to pay for the renovation work and the sanatorium was closed.

Hotel construction

The greatest projects start with only an idea. The construction of the 5* Hotel Carlsbad Plaza, which was originally planned to be called Hotel Ellen, was also just an idea in the beginning. An idea to create something unique in Karlovy Vary, something that had never been there before and was priorly missing.

In 2003, the company Eden Group a.s. began an extensive reconstruction to save this historic gem. After two years of arduous work, the Carlsbad Plaza Hotel opened in December 2005 and the historic residences rose from the rubble in style.

The hotel interior is very cosmopolitan. All components have been carefully selected to make every guest feel at home. The ingenuity with which everything has been thought out down to the last detail is evident in every part of the hotel. Many may be surprised to see the list of countries that have contributed something to the Carlsbad Plaza Hotel, apart from the Czech Republic there are segments from the UK, Spain, Italy, Austria, Germany, Switzerland, China, Indonesia, Java and many more.

Present-day Carlsbad Plaza Hotel

The Carlsbad Plaza Medical Spa & Wellness Hotel 5* Superior was inaugurated in December 2005. The hotel is situated in the quiet surroundings of the spa area of Karlovy Vary, in close proximity to the world famous healing thermal mineral springs and picturesque historical colonnades.

In April 2007, the Carlsbad Plaza Hotel became a proud member of "The Leading Hotels of the World", the most prestigious hotel alliance that, since 1928, has brought together only the most luxurious hotels from around the world. In the same year, the Carlsbad Clinic, a stand-alone luxury medical and wellness center, opened with services tailored to a discerning clientele. In 2009, the Carlsbad Plaza Hotel applied for a membership in the "Les Clefs d'Or" association, which has been bringing together the best hotel concierges from 37 countries since 1929, and after meeting all the demanding conditions, in October 2010, it became the only hotel in Karlovy Vary to become another esteemed member of this prestigious international association. In 2011, the Carlsbad Plaza Hotel was awarded the highest possible European certification "5* Superior", thanks to which the hotel once again confirmed that with its exceptional quality and high standard, it rightfully belongs among the world's top hotels. In April 2014, the Spa Suites were inaugurated, offering guests a completely new and unique concept of treatment in the utmost privacy, taking into account their individual needs.
