Cryotherapy

Frost treatment or cryotherapy is a relatively new method in which the patient's body is exposed to extremely low temperatures. Back pain, joint pain, cellulitis or psoriasis are just some of the conditions where this treatment shows surprisingly good results. The essence of whole-body cryotherapy is a short stay (up to 3 minutes) in a so-called cryochamber, with an optimum therapeutic and rehabilitative temperature of -110°C. After exiting the cryochamber, a second, approximately 15-minute cryostimulation phase follows, which consists of lighter aerobic activity and exercise. Examples include physical activity on stationary bicycles, treadmills and other exercise equipment. The Carlsbad Clinic, the only one in Karlovy Vary, offers a whole-body cryotherapy, which takes place in three separate closed rooms where the patient is exposed to temperatures of up to -110°C under the careful supervision of experts.

Positive effects of cryotherapy

The beneficial effect of frost on the human body results from the fact that there is only treated dry air, absolutely free of moisture inside the cryochamber. The internal temperature of the body is not reduced, but the surface of the body is cooled down rapidly and exclusively, resulting in a huge peripheral congestion and a decrease in pain, acceleration of metabolism and healing processes. The effect of frost also results in a radical increase in the level of hormones that dampen inflammatory reactions, stiff muscles are relaxed and long-term pain, including back pain and musculoskeletal pain in general, disappears for many hours. Immediately after leaving the cryochamber you will experience a pleasant sensation throughout your body, all joints will move more freely and pain perception will be reduced for several hours. Depending on the number of treatments you have had, the reduced pain, and even pain-free feeling, may persist for longer periods (for example, several months). Optimally, cryostimulation treatments should involve at least ten or more sessions over the shortest possible period of time.
